The temporary arrest order of three citizens from Bukan named Rauf Sheikh Maarofi, Kamran Soltani and Mohammad Faraji, who were arrested during the uprising of women, life, freedom in this city and accused of “corruption on earth”, by the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Islamic Revolution of Bukan in Azerbaijan province West was extended for another two months.
According to the Kurdistan Human Rights Network, in the past few days, one of the branches of the Bukan General Prosecutor’s Office has extended the temporary detention of these three citizens for another 2 months after more than a year of detention.
Rauf Sheikh Maarofi, Mohammad Faraji and Kamran Soltani were arrested by the security forces in Bukan during the Women, Life, Freedom uprising in early 2023 and were taken to the detention center of Urmia Intelligence Department.
These people have been subjected to pressure and mental torture in the detention center of Urmia Intelligence Department by keeping them in solitary cells to make forced confessions and accept the charge of “participating in the murder of a security officer” in the 2022 protests in Bukan. But despite all the pressure, they denied this charge.
On June 10, 2023, with the end of the interrogation period, these 3 Kurdish citizens were transferred to Bukan prison and are currently in prison under temporary detention. Since their arrest, these people have been deprived of the right to have an appointed lawyer, and according to the court’s announcement, a substitute lawyer has been appointed for them.
The accusation of “corruption in earth” against Rauf Sheikh Maarofi, Mohammad Faraji and Kamran Soltani has increased the concerns about the risk of issuing death sentences for them.
