Contrary to what the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has said, a rocket attack on Erbil on Sunday morning is not the only revenge against Israel.
This is not the first time that Iranian troops have been killed by Israel in Syria, and it will not be the last, but in announcing this as an excuse to attack Erbil, the only issue was the simultaneous killing of two Iranian soldiers in Syria.
The attack came as efforts to form a new government in Iraq accelerated.
Muqtada al-Sadr has been able to obtain the consent of dissatisfied Shiites for the candidacy of his cousin Muhammad Ja’far al-Sadr to form a new government.
Muqtada al-Sadr continues to insist on the slogan of the majority national government as well as the slogan “neither East nor West”, which means trying to end Iran’s influence in Iraq.
One of the strongholds of the Front formed against the Iranian influence in Iraq is in Erbil, the ruling party of this city, the Democratic Party of Iraqi Kurdistan led by Massoud Barzani.
Therefore, Iran sent a message to Sadr and Barzani with missiles that they will not give up on their efforts.
On the other hand, the recent efforts of the Kurdistan Regional Government to participate in changing the energy map and their efforts to export natural gas to Turkey and Europe and to cooperate in this field with Qatar are not to the liking of Iran or even Russia. It is no coincidence that house of Sheikh Baz, the owner of Kar Group, which plays a significant role in the energy sector of Kurdistan, was one of the targets of the Iranian missile strike on Erbil.

In the case of Russia, too, we must keep in mind that the Ukraine crisis is in fact a conflict of interest between Moscow and Washington. Therefore, in any part of the world, if the interests of Russia and the United States are in conflict, the possibility of a confrontation between the two countries or forces close to the two countries is the strongest possibility.
As an ally of Russia, Iran knows that weakening Russia’s position means weakening and endangering Iran’s position.
On the other hand, Iran’s talks with Western countries on reviving the 2015 nuclear deal are in their final stages. Therefore, Tehran is trying to get the most points from the United States and European countries in the Vienna talks by showing off its missile capability in Erbil, just as it did in the past few days, by unveiling its secret missile tunnels.
