Pressure on NRT continues, and this time security forces closed the channel’s office in Erbil.
On Tuesday morning, security forces of the Iraqi Kurdistan Democratic Party closed the NRT office in Erbil.
Climate security forces have told NRT staff in Erbil that they are not allowed to work in the province at all.
The Ministry of Culture of the Kurdistan Region announced that the closure of the NRT office in Erbil was the responsibility of the Ministry of Interior.
On the other hand, the Ministry of Interior stated that it was unaware of the closure of the NRT office in Erbil.
The Ministry of Interior of the Kurdistan Region added: “They respect the freedom of the media at the behest of Prime Minister Masrour Barzani.”
Meanwhile, in August, the Interior Ministry closed the NRT offices in Erbil and Duhok.
The NRT office in Erbil reopened after two months, and the channel’s office in Duhok is still closed.
The closure of the NRT office in Erbil comes on December 7, when security forces of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) closed the canal’s main office in Sulaimaniyah for 12 days, halting the channel and destroying broadcasting equipment.
