After a week of demonstrations and protests in some parts of Iraqi Kurdistan, the situation on Saturday was somewhat calm.
Relative calm was restored after the protesters were severely repressed on Friday, with many arrests and injuries.
Despite the calm, Congress announced on Saturday that dissenting voices would continue to protest.
On the other hand, the Ministry of Culture extended the closure of the NRT channel for a week.
In a news item on its website, NRT blamed Ghobad Talabani, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, for the attack and the closure of the channel’s main office, and said that the NRT office was ordered by the Deputy Prime Minister
The famous Kurdish poet Abdullah Pashew also supported the protests in a message and attacked the ruling parties.
“You do not depend on your monthly salary and you do not look at the calendar to know that it is the first day of the month, that is why you never starve the street,” Pashio said in part of his message to the ruling class in Kurdistan. You do not understand. “
“You idiots, you have an oil and gas rich country, but you can not pay the monthly salaries of the employees, this is normal in a country like Somalia and the salaries of the employees are paid every month”.
The poet refers to the delay in the payment of government employees, which has been paid for only four months this year.
At least 10 people were killed and more than 100 were injured in protests last week.
